Buzzing Main Relay Looks Like Earthing Issue

Hi All, my 2001 TD5 D90 stopped dead a couple days ago, and it wouldn't restart. With ignition on, the main relay buzzes loudly, the glowplug/EM lights don't come on and the fuel pump isn't running.

I've worked out it's an earthing issue, as a jump lead from the battery -ve (or gearbox!) to the ECU earth (in the bottom of the driver's seatbox) solves the issue. In fact, it appears that the whole seat box inc. seat rails etc are live when the ignition's on.

I've removed, cleaned and refitted the -ve battery/ chassis/gearbox connection on the nearside, and also a chassis to bulkhead strap on the offside adjacent to the front mudguard but the issue persists. I plan to run a new ground from the battery to the ECU earthing point which will work, I think but I'd really like to work out what's broken!

Are there any likely points of failure in the earth distribution between the chassis/gearbox and the drivers seatbox?? I presume it should be electrically connected through the bulkhead as it's all metal bits bolted together , but what have I missed?

Thanks in advance...D
