What should i be looking for?

Firstly unless it's totally original and you need to check that it is. I'd want a list of all mods done to it and what age of vehicle they were sorced from.

Also service history etc as with a "normal" vehicle.

You'll also want to have a good look at the state of the footwells so peel back carpets etc, bulkheads also prone to rust, as is rear crossmember, whilst looking under neath look for damaged chasis from severe off roading and rotten outriggers.

Wouldn't worry about the mileage as long as you have proof of good/regular servicing.

You dont say whether its a 90 or 110 or csw or commercial which is it? as this makes a big difference to the price.

Lastly it may look like a station wagon but is it a commercial pretending to be? check the finish of the side windows. Course it may have been done very well but I've seen some that were roughly cut out not even filed LOL.

Then of course test drive, but make sure you test drive other similar vehicles as well especially if you've never driven a Landrover before.

Better yet take along someone who knows what to look for.

Common rust worm places are rear crossmember, and all out riggers, especially the front ones. give them all a prod with a screwdriver.
check the fuel tank isn't leaking, especially if it's been off road.
Check difflock works (& light comes on)

All above are resonably easy fixes for a competant DIY mechanic/welder, but for the price that you're paying, you shouldn't have to be doing any of them.

That is a reasonable price, but it would have to be spot on for that money. There is a good thread on here by Widget on buying a defender, worth finding as its full of info. Where are you based? I would certainly advise taking a landy owner along with you, who knows what they are looking at. do a search for Widgets post 1st.
