Hi all, I am making my own front winch bumper and having part fab'd it up I started thinking about the fixings. I am going to fix it at the side to the chassis rail but the top fixings that go into the chassis into the captive plate is what I don't like. I remember when I did the strip down of the 110 they were rusted in solid so thought I'd ask if anyone has come up with a better idea ? Like drilling the holes right through the bottom of the chassis and using a nut and bolt ? Any help ideas welcome .
cheers Ian

Not sure if drilling em right through would be a good idea. IIRC there are stiffener tubes in the upper part of the box section, but none in the lower compartment, where the little threaded plate sits. So it might actually end up weaker, not stronger.

On the fairey pto winches you have to weld brackets to the front face of the front crossmember to support the winch so the whole thing ends up secured by twice as many fixings

I probably wouldn't try and reinvent the wheel tbh. Use the stock mountings, that is why they are there. For extra strength, fab up a section that the bumper also bolts to where you'd mount a steering guard. This is what a lot of the aftermarket bumpers do. Giving you a 6 point/bolt mounting.
