hello everybody,

I will try to make it easy, i'm considering to transplant my 90 300 tdi to a tomcat chassis...

unfortunately in italy its very complicated to obtain all the approvals for any stupid thing (bigger tires, winches, roll bar ,) basically if you upgrade a 4x4 you have a car that is totally illegal, and its very risky cause your car can be confiscated for very stupid reason...i can't imagine driving around with a full skeleton chassis and a new fiber glass body!!!

will be a lot easier to import a car that its already street legal in UK and convert the documents back home,

that means that i will have to find a donor car(chassis) in UK that already its aloud to run with all the specs i need : winches roll bar 35" etc...weld the cage on and bring it back here to start the switch!

i hope what i wrote its clear

any suggestion, questions, experiences or ideas will be very useful for me,

thank you very much

Jon

you want to buy it converted.

we have silly rules in this country-we ignore them

i did the same for the last 12 years but if i change chassis and body running my already illegal 35" and winches, without have any declaration on my documents, someone is not going to ignore me

how do you make it street legal in UK? is it possible?

it goes for a vehicle identity check(VIC) and single vehicle approval (SVA)
UNLESS THE CONVERSION HAS TYPE APPROVAL

I see...and what do you need to go trough? expenses, burocracy, how long i takes,

If a company weld the full cage for me and does the all job they will also think about all the legals or do you thing i got to do it my own? and how much could it be?

thank you

Send a private message to Pressbrake- he is trusted for engineering work, he is giving up his business unless he can find cheaper premises- but he should be able to give you an idea of cost.

I personally wouldn't entertain importing a vehicle unless the SVA is compliant in Italy- a minefield.

I would suggest you contact Italian Government Department that deals with vehicles and ask what certificates you need to import and drive a kit car from second hand parts

anyone know how the lower position off the seat influence the driving? i guess its better for speeding but not for off roading.

thanks
