Hi folks. I have a problem with my back door lower hinge. The pin in it snapped when the door was snatched out of my hand by the wind. When I say back door I mean the one with the spare tyre on.

What I am wanting to know is, is it possible to just replace the pin in it or will I have to replace the entire hinge. If it is possible to replace just the pin can anyone tell me where I might get one bearing in mind I don't have access to scrap yards with being in the Scottish Isles. Should it come to getting the entire hinge, do you have any suggestions as to where I would get one at a reasonable sort of price.

I have a 1995 300Tdi.

Many thanks in anticipation of your ideas and Happy New Year.

you'll more than likely need a new hinge as they bend when the door is caught by the wind, if its gone with such force to break the pin then the hinge is definately bent.

I've never managed to straighten one yet and get the door to close properly

Thanks for the prompt reply Clutchdust. Having taken a good look at it just a few moments ago it would seem that I have actually bent the hinge and it would appear I have also bent the top one as well. it was my own fault I should have parked facing the wind, I've lived here long enough to know that!

its a fairly common problem. the weight of the door and the spare wheel dont help either.
all the usual places will sell the hinges. craddocks etc.. also try ebay.

ive no idea if the disco 2 hinges will fit, or, are better made.

disco 2 hinges bend just as bad if the door is wacked open

The new ones dont come painted so you will need to get the correct colour to paint it with, I used a similar colour spray can then finished off with a touchup pen as I could not get the corrrect colour in a spray.
