hi guy's havent been on for a while, just a wee query recently put in new instrument panel,as my speedo was not working got one from scrappies, but now i have different miles on the car how do i get it back to my original miles, do i need to take it to one of those guys that can take miles off car that you see advertised in motor mags.cheers pat

im not 100% sure but ive heard something like the p38 holds the mileage info in the becm amd the new set of clocks you have hold their mileage as well and when you plug in a set of dials then it will go to the mileage that is higher.

like i said im not 100% sure but its something like that, someone will be along to correct me!!! Oh and to answer your question im pretty certain there is no way at all of clocking the p38.

Hello pat... I was in the same boat mate.. it is very possable to correct the millage on your car... you need to speak to Joe at emmotts of colne... he will help you.. fantastic sevice.. all the best.

thanks for the replies, guy's that's good to know stuxj40 that you can take the miles back, because when i go for mot i can get it to the right milage, otherwise iam going to be miles out with my old mot.cheer pat.

The instrument cluster has it's own memory chip (eProm) which stores the mileage in approximately 100 miles batches. This data is "Burned" into nthe chip and cannot be erased other than replacing the chip.
The mileage stored in the Becm can be reset by unlocking and reducing the stored figure.
Tommo has the right info, insomuch as the display will update to the highest stored figure, whether stored in the cluster or the Becm.
When buying a used cluster, in order to prevent the problem, buy a cluster with a LOWER mileage than the original, that way the display will update to the higher figure which will be that stored in the Becm and therefore the correct mileage. You will probably get "Odometer error" messages for a short while but the odometer will usually jump to the correct figure, or the "Odometer synchronise" function can be used on Faultmate to reset it immediately and clear the error message.
