are the brakes supposed to be able to be locked up cos they don`t . have been told to replace the vacuum pump and the servo , gonna be a practicaly new landy at this rate.:hysterically_laughi

I think you have a problem with the master cylinder - leak maybe - or as said your vaccum pump is fautly.

If you press the brake pedal, then turn on the ignition can you feel the vaccum pump kick in?

Or after you have had the engine running and you switch it off, can you get a couple of uses of the brakes with the engine off and they feel normal then start to get stiff as the vaccum runs out?

If there is no change then you have a vaccum problem as said above - I suspected this after you had said you had done everything else!

It could be the pump, it could be the pipes or the vaccuum servo could have a hole in it, or not unheard of the little plug could have fallen out (some have little plugs in them, if this falls out its as good as a big hole).
