Good morning,i hope all are well.
I am now very close to getting my s2a's brakes working to a safe level(for me),all new parts as soon as the replacement servo arrives.i bought a 2nd hand 3 brake pedal box with attached ancient servo, all fitted into place with just a small cut out of the bonnet and pedal box area,i fully intended to buy a new servo after I was sure It was a viable project.i had a lot of trouble with the brake adjustments, binding, locking after reversing etc,as soon as the weather got better i got the old girl on some hard standing and got all 4 wheels off the ground and this made the world of difference,i fitted new brake adjusters all round as the old ones were 3 different spanner sizes(from years of filing) and one completely rounded(molegrips).the positivity of the new notches has helped a lot, there was none before!,i have had the drums on and off more times than a whores drawers to carefully sand,by hand, the small shiny contact areas until I have large shiny contact areas,i can lock the brakes now if I really go for it,that's with a leaky servo which is nice,
my front brakes are tls 11" which have a small bit of fettling to do, this is the reason, apart from the progress report of my post,
Does anybody have any info of where I can get the little front brake shoe adjuster bolts/screws, the bolts and locknuts that ensure the shoes and drum are parallel, they go through the backplate and rest against the shoe as a positive stop, mine are all mangled so much that I don't even know what they are supposed to look like, even the thread size would be of help,a mechanically minded pal has suggested altering the setup and putting the more 'modern' pin and spring setup from a ldv/tranny rear brake in,this would work but I would be happier not altering my backplates As all the parts i have used are land rover, albeit different models/years.
As soon as the servo arrives and fitted i will put up pics of the minor bonnet adaptations etc for reference,
Atb and good luck,
Ryn.

This is what they look like and the part number, they seem easy enough to get. Thread looks like UNF. As they are obtainble I would heat them to a dull red then try Molegrips. Alt is to grind flush, centre punch and drill with the tapping drill size.

not cheap , can you adapt a bolt with locknuts

Thanks for the info,i will most likely adapt some smaller diameter bolts+locknuts with the touching ends rounded and smoothed until things get back to normal and I can visit my breaker, by the way, in the brake diagram number 600212 does not seem to be in my setup, tls 11 inch,
I have looked up the number and it just comes back as -spring-.

You have the same brakes as I do , I think the pic is wrong and should be the brake shoe spring as in pic, I can’t think why you would have a small spring without any hooks in there

Thanks for all the help and info, hopefully my new servo will be here today along with some other small bits and pieces to keep me busy til the weekend.the advice and pics, the searches that have been done are very appreciated,
I have been concentrating on getting the running gear mechanicals into a safe for the road condition before moving onto the next area of concern which is a very noticeable ticking, almost a clicking from the top end,(starts and runs fine around the field)i have resisted all well intentioned advice to remove the rocker cover to inspect etc as i could see myself getting overwhelmed if I took everything apart at once,i have seen a few projects, aka a rolling chassis and boxes of bits for sale which were most likely victims of too much amateur but well intentioned eagerness,
Atb ,thanks again and good health to you and yours,
p.s
I fully expect to be asking tappet and cam type questions in the near future and look forward to the replies.
Ryn,
Sunny and bright west penwith.

Good evening,
My new servo arrived, bolted it on but the brakes very spongy,no servo type air noise at all, took it back off and operated it by hand,ie trying with the hose and without, and all good, just no noise whatsoever, put it back on and jacked the front up,propped the pedal and left it overnight and to my surprise i have absolutely fantastic brakes, hard positive pedal and it will stop on a sixpence. very happy,
whilst it was up at the front i discovered another area of concern,i will post a new thread,
With the national situation i feel quite lucky to have the landy to keep me busy and socially distant,
