Brakes tight after fitting new shoes/cylinders

Can anyone give me advice. Just replaced shoes and cylinders all round on my 1972 swb and 3 of the 4 wheels have trouble turning. I havent even bled the system yet so not the flexis ( which I experienced on my last landy ). I used Britpart items. And yes, the adjusters are off:confused:

well thats not a very good introduction after 2 and a bit years of nothing………..
 
I actually only been a member since Dec 2012 not 2010, no idea why it says that - and I just purchased another series landy after a dry spell. And oops didnt introduce myself properly. I was hoping to get advice regarding my brakes, instead got someone jumping down my throat. Very useful thanks

I just replaced a brake cylinder (Britpart) and had the same problem on further investigation the fixed shoe side of the cylinder had a 4mm packing piece in which was removable but caused the shoes to be really tight on drums once removed wheel spun freely, now having problems getting air out of system
 
I had the same problem on my S3. I found that after I somehow forced the drums into place the brakes eased off after a day and were fine. I think the problem is that the pistons sometimes need time to settle down if they go in a little extended.
 
I found leaving the master cylinder cap off, and g-clamping the cylinders so they go as far in as possible, then use a brake pipe clamp on the hose, should do it...
 
I been off forum for few weeks.....yes Britpart!! I followed a few suggestions on other threads.... tried grinding the metal tabs that slot into cylinders which did help a bit. Then had trouble getting rid of the air, I now believe that master cylinder is shot.....pedal straight to the floor.
So massive change of plan for landy.
Ive taken all panels off for new paint (brush painted in past), so flat her back and spray. Meanwhile fit new rear 1/4 chassis, clean up and paint. Sort brakes as she goes back together...... should only take few months id recon :rolleyes:
 
iv had non stop probolems with my brakes on my series 3,cant get them rite atall,they are ither as spongy as a giant washing sponge,or rite at the top of the pedal, and them jam on, and all my wheel cylinders seem to leak,even the expensive ones!:confused:

Yea that sound familiar, had same problem with my last landy. There is height adjustment on the pedal itself which would release pressure if I remember. Also knackered flexis will have same effect..... cheap enough tho.
When theyr set up correctly they actually work really well
 
yea,i do have some flexi's spare somewhere,so will change them aswell when i do my next lot of cylinders,hahaha next lot,sounds like a regular thing,witch wuddnt be lieing! will probz just buy cheapys,as its only going to be on the road another 2 odd months now! :D
 
I found access a real problem when replacing my master cylinder as you can't get a spanner on the inside end of the lower nut and bolt (mine was installed with a nyloc nut which means they never loosen off). In the end I ground an enlarged slot in the existing access port and got a nut splitter on it which did the trick.

Yes I had this problem with my last landy. Luckily Ive got good physical access to everything now as wings etc are removed. It does make fiddly jobs more bearable (is that how you spell that word? lol) I will do the chassis, brakes etc before refitting panels. If I can get my hands on an overdrive unit (without losing arm and leg) then this will be the time to do it
