Brake Pipes?

Hi,

Any recommendations on brake pipe material (copper vs stainless steel), sources for pipe kits or the raw materials, etc? I am located in the US, but would consider buying from the UK despite the shipping costs if the kit was better than stock.

Stainless steel (SS) brake pipes would have the advantage of being corrossion resistant, except that local pitting is possible. Also, SS is very hard, which translates to sort of brittle, which may be a disadvantage when it is former to fit the truck, and may be an issue after years of vibration. Does anyone know if SS pipes would have problems with vibration and cracking due to hardness?

I was thinking that copper-nickel pipes would be corrossion-resistant and easy to form, and not brittle. However, I have seen some references to the copper pipes being "cheap" on some Land-Rover restoration web sites. I have no issue with low-cost But are there any other disadvantages that would cause those sources to call copper "cheap"?

The stock material is an alloy-coated steel. This may not last forever, but should be good for decades even in locations where they salt the roads. The stock pipes have the advantage of being available off the shelf, pre-bent, with all proper fittings, hangers, etc.

That is the way I have decided to go.
