Book symbol + flashing AC light

:D hi, lol

The flashing A/C light basically happens when you press the A/C OFF button and the temp(s) are set outside what the HeVAC system can maintain without the use of the A/C system.

An example of this would be if you put the system to LO both sides and then pressed the A/C OFF button, it would flash the orange light at you to let you know it could not maintain the temperature requested without the use of the A/C.

The book symbol and the flashing light are not related, that is to say the light doesn't flash because there is a fault.

If you have the book symbol up then you have a fault somewhere. Have you noticed anything not working with your HeVAC system?? Does all the air come out at the right vents, does it come out at the right temp?? Does the A/C engage ok?? After you have started up how soon does the book symbol appear??

Give me a bit more info and Im sure me and others on here will be able to help a bit more! :)

hi Wills
Thanks for the reply
Book symbol comes up probably as soon as engine is up to temp, air distribution is ok but no air con cooling.

first things first, put the air-con to "low" and see if the air-con compressor clutch has engaged, it should be spinning! if its not tap it with the handle of a screw driver to see if it engages, if it does you may not have enough voltage at clutch/too large a gap at clutch? i had this problem, i cured it with an additional loom and removed a shim from clutch.
if it dont engage there will be a fault else where (best check for voltage at clutch to be certain) that may not be so easy to trace and may need diagnostics to find, i heard the clutch wont engage if the gas pressure in system is too low?

clutch doesn't engage, removed washer and refitted, still the same. Hit it still the same. Can anyone else confirm that low/no gas = no compressor ??

Yes, no/low gas=no comressor clutch. Briefly "Pop" one of the tyre type valves on the aircon pipes which run along the bulkhead and see if there is any pressure behind it.
Don't let the Green Party know what you are doing though!!!

Thanks, Gina's out in the car atm so will check tomorrow, so would no gas result in the book symbol

Yes- because the pressure switch prevents the clutch operating without sufficient gas pressure- when the HEVAC is put in diagnostic mode the fault shows up "Clutch open circuit". If you do have a leak, suggest you get the system filled with nitrogen (Inert gas) to try and pinpoint where it's going. Nitrogen is far cheaper than 134A.

Pressure was low, used a halfrauds refill kit, problem solved, Thanks chaps, Landyzone solves another one :D
