Is there anyway one can reduce the amount of black smoke my 200tdi Defender throws out on start up. It starts on the button, the engine hardly turns over before it fires up. Even in tepmeratures down to -20°.
It doesn't burn any engine oil or smoke once its fired up but the amount of smoke on start up is almost an embaresment. Some poor bloke was standing behind my Defender having a quiet fag. After I started the motor he almost looked like one of the black & white minstrels.

They all chuck out a chuff when starting but if its that bad maybe the injectors need testing.
I smiled when i started mine up the other day and the bloke parked next to me in his bmw with the window down!
