Hi Everybody,
i thought I'd better sign up to the forum, as I've been lurking for a while, and now I need some of the expert advice and guidance that is so freely imparted on here....so here goes....be gentle with me as this is my first foray into all things land rovery,

The other half has been given a land Rover 90 (87) by her dad, which see is over the moon about as she see's her self as a bit of the Lady of the manor!...which is a bit rich as we live in the outskirts of the Smoke.....and therein lies my problem.....the Landy is a 2.5 na diesel (I believe), and thanks to the tree hugging hippies that are TFL, driving the aforementioned 90 is going to cost £100 a day, due to the fact that we are just inside the Low Emission Zone.....Thanks Ken/Boris!!!!!

So a change to a petrol engine is in order. Me, being an old Hot Rodder wants to go straight for the Rover V8 conversion, but is the 2.25 petrol engine from the Series Landys a viable option?

Your thoughts and experiences, if you would be so kind,

Thanks in advance

Spike

Personally I would go the V8 route. I had an S3 109 with a 2.25 petrol and though it is a lovely smooth engine is slow and thirsty. My view is the V8 is certainly not slow and manages to get close to the 2.25 in mpg.
Alternatively you could sell the 90 or trade it for something LEZ compliant?

Selling the 90 will be out of the question (sentimental value), as is moving house  so V8 it is then :). its only diesel engines that come under LEZ legislation , so its gotta go.......

is the V8 a straightforward swop?, do I need some sort of converter plate to marry the V8 to the diesel box??

Don't follow Docs thread then

But surely converting to a V8 will still fall foul to the emission bull**** in London.

Check out adding/conversion to LPG for your diesel then

The gearbox will need an adapter search ebay for Milner ring they usually come up, but will be close to bulkhead and may need some fettling to fit, or just get a proper v8 box but you will need to weld the engine mounts to the correct place

Is it a CSW or was it originally built as one? CSW's can be LEZ compliant as they are deemed as cars. If it was built as a van you are stuffed! My 90 (96 CSW 300 TDI) is LEZ compliant.

There's a V8 box?
