On my quest to get all the bits to the 90 done before the winter, after sorting out the snorkel, I've started on bigger things now.

note for whoever has a snorkel

My snorkel fits on the side of the passenger side wing, when I fitted it before, I thought all was air tight, it wasnt. You have to remove the heater box to get access to the inside of where the snorkel goes in, in here there is a box connected to a plastic elbow. This connection is rubish, you have to seal it, also, the plastic box has a drain nipple, which you have to remove and close the hole.

Now, back to my questions....

My battery box needed welding, so I've done this..

So... to my surprise the chassi is spot on, still black and protected, with just a slight surface rust on the top.... while its like that I want to protect it.
Should I just paint it with hammerite? or red oxyde paint first and then black hammerite? or brush some waxoyl all over it?

secondly... can I coat the inside of the battery box with waxoyl? it has loads of surface rust inside and looks a mess, even after brushing with an air dremmel with a steel brush...

cheers!!

batteries do not (should not)get that hot that they reach the flashpoint for waxoyl , as for fumes . your batteryt box should have ventilation to let the far more flammable hydrogen vent HTSH

I personally wouldn't waxoyl inside the battery box, it rather paint it. It's quite messy stuff, so I'd leave it for the underside of the car.

yeh, I thought about the fumes... would holes on the top of the box be enough?

as I plan on closing all the holes the box has, as last year the mud kept getting in

water would get in through the top vent holes and not drain away wouldn't it?

the holes I was planning to do would be right on the top, under the seat.. for water to get through there, I would have to have water up to my waist...

if it were mine i would not have venting into the cab. you may find the metal in your seat base starts to rust and also the stink of battery gas/acid that will build up in the vehicle. is not so nice from my experience. if you were going to go down that path change your battery to a gel cell instead

You've never had that?

Always worth planning for every scenario! :)
