ok, so these becker satnavs we can get, they need a speed pluse rite?
why? i know my old pioneer you could attach one, incase your in the urban canyons so it would help to locate your gps was weak, but why wont the becker work with out it. is that awkward or what.

evening slob, so which rugby team were you cheering on last night? at home for england of down le boozer cheering for your new mother country.

anyway, what part didnt you understand?

my old pioneer and the becker sat navs have connections for the vehicles speed pluse. therefor when you say driving along a heavelly forrested road and your gps keep getting weak, it counts the pulses and from that it kinda knows where you are (ish).

my pioneer would work on GPS only, but the becker units, (apparently, unless steve is trying to flog me a duff one) wont work unless a speed pluse is fitted, ie unable to work on GPS alone. now why would they do that.

I think its done like that so it has a dead reckoning system as I would think its a built in system your talking about and as german norm over engineered. They are probably concerned that customers would panic if they get ''lost sat reception'' message.
Garmin units that have the ''dr'' option will work without it as well:) JMHO
