Pretty sure I won't be doing long motorway journeys anytime soon but I imagine they'd be loud at 70.

Have you experimented with you hi/lo derailleur gear set yet? Was it a difficult modification from your old Sturmey Archer 3 speed?
have you fixed the cloud of smoke out the back when cold starting in the mornings?
I'm fairly sure that's normal and just a few seals showing their age. I'm more concerned about the unexplained and seemingly random fluid loss
that happens when you get old
