Hello im new! I actually drive a saxo but my parents Mk1 98 Discovery is causing grief!

Basically the battery is fine and will hold charge but after several days it will not turn the engine over! The battery and alternator are both fine and whe have told that it may be the earth points that are corroded.

Can anyone show/tell me where they are

also one of the rear door pins goes down a lot slower that the other when you lock the doors on the C/L

Could this possibly drain the battery?

many thanks in advance

The boot light switch on my 200 tdi gets knocked sometimes and leaves the light on which might be worth checking. Also try disconnecting the battery and leaving it for a few days to see if it starts OK

If you have a digital voltmeter most have a setting to show amps (current) being consumed, you can connect this between the + of the battery and the main cables and read off any current draw.

WARNING! Most of the small meters can only measure a max of about 10 amps without a shunt, just make sure everything is switched off and don't try switching on all the lights ect, the ignition alone can be enough to destroy the meter.

As the battery takes a few days to go flat it could be assumed the draw is less than 10 amps.

Then its just a case of going around pulling fuses and unplugging things untill the meter reads zero or as near as damn it allowing for the clock/alarm ect.

Dave

The Earth that went on mine and displayed the same problems was the Engine to chassis one, now this is below the Turbo/exhaust area it is a Braided earth and a wiggle when she doesnt start will identify if it is this one (sharp tug).dont even try to get this one off and on again it is a pain just replace with one from the bolt that is about 2 inches left of the origional engine one and then lead it to the chassis and find a hole there, alternativly and this fixed mine for a while the earth lead passes by the strut brace housing if you have enough slack bodge a tie (metal wire):D to that and it will continue to work ok. Temp fix common problem
