I don't know if i'm alone in my sentiments here but it doesn;t seem
that long ago that old Landrovers were all over the place. It seems
like you couldn't let a week go by without hearing about or seeing a
old Landy 'at rest' somewhere (ie, in a hedge). I remember going to
see a barn full of series 1s, 2s and 3s in a local farm years ago, the
farmer simply bought a new one every few years and pushed the outgoing
one into the barn. They were all there in reverse chronological order!
Right down to a little 1952 series one right at the back.
I don't know what happened, I must have missed it but all the original
finds are gone, and they appear on the second hand market with a dodgy
paint job with an equally dodgy price.....
Perhaps its the Indiana Jones in me that wants to cut back the
undergrowth and bring a series one back from the wilderness. Or
perhaps it's the Alf Garnet in me that makes me a grumpy bugger who
should concentrate on finding a good one instead of moaning.

So, what do u think, is it me, or have they all
dissapeared............

Nope .. I'm in 'negotiations' for a couple of S3's and a 101, exactly as you
describe ... ;)

Not at all. I know of at least 8 x 101s (probably the rarest of
Landies now), 4 x S1s, a good few S2s and countless S3s which are
currently en situ as you describe :)

Heheheh, I might have ... situations a bit delicate .. two very recent
bereavements, bickerings among the families over who gets what, though none
of them want any of the actual vehicles they _all_ want a share of the
value, and they _all_ think the value's way more than it actually is. So
I'm keeping quiet for a while with it all. They may all be being sold off
separately, or going up on eBay, or wherever, rather than letting me have
them as a job lot ..

It appears the local 'garage mechanic' has seen them and declared all the
vehicles vintage (Hah) and of such greatt value that they would be better
selling them at private auction or on his forecourt, for a small retainer no
doubt .. the bastard ..

Which is a tad annoying as we were offering a fair price for no hassle
removal of _all_ the stuff, not just the vehicles, and generally clearing
tons of scrap too, which the old boy had agreed in principle to .. Granted
we'd have made a profit from it, but it wouldn't be astronomical and we are
actually interested in keeping at least two of them for ourselves. Ah well.
I'll keep you posted if any actually make it to general sale .. or to me ...
;).

Ah, I _know_ what that's like. I was recently stuck well in the
middle of a family (mine) who were doing the same. I offered to pay
them all off, which they were initially happy with. Then they got
suspicious and thought they could get more by letting a _bank_ sort
the probate. Course, they all ended up getting much less that way.
****em is all I can say. I'm currently letting them carry on
threatening each other and have cut myself out of the loop. Life's to
short.

That's it entirely .. they know where I am, what I offered and what they can
do about it .. fax, email, phone, mobile, text, snail mail, they all have
every available means, barring carrier pigeon, to contact me that I can
think of that will fit on a business sized card.. ;)

What's really annoying is that the 101 was a definite sale to me for
effectively bugger all, not 'cos I wouldn't have paid, but 'cos he knew I'd
fancied, wanted, driven and worked on it occasionally over the years, and it
was what he paid for it many, many years ago .. the rest were mostly add-ons
... not that I'm ungrateful but, you know ...

Thats how I got my new baby (1979 series 3 diesel LWB)

guy that had worked on a farm acquired his then decided he didnt have time
for it so gave it to me (free....!) when I expressed an interest. worst bit
was when I went to pick it up he told me how the farm where it had come from
had another 2 and loadsa parts up there. when I investigated was told you
shoulda been here last week wanted to make some space so we buried it all
!!!!!!

I mean Im a true rookie to this whole Landy thing but I was still upset I
didnt even get invited to the wake

The high class totty I was talking about was referring to the job im
starting, didnt think LRs and HCT mixed either until I was in my new
employers showroom today and a rather attractive female walked in,
casually leaving her new rangie keys on the counter. Unfortunately,
auto-pilot took over and I nearly pushed her over in my rush to see if
she had the diesel or V8. One has to get one's priorities right!

Dave, this is why you need me around at all times. You could have
ogled the Rangie and I would have looked after the young lady and made
sure her needs were met. Not a problem, do it for you any time. Just
ask. Please.

Fnarr fnarr. I don't like anti-fouling much. It's hard work and you get
mess all over your overalls. If it was just the transom, you could do all
the work from behind from a kneeling position, though you'd have to make
sure you didn't get all that horrible weed on your brush.

Speaking of which, a girl has just started work with us. She has two words
tattooed on her lower back, just above the line of her jeans. Right where I
normally put my copy of LRO.

"JESUS SAVES".

Reminds me of a T-shirt I saw advertised the other day. Piture of
Jesus on the front with the words "JESUS IS COMING" along the top, and
then underneath written in brackets "Quick, look busy!".

ALmost as funny was the one thats said "I'm not mad!........Just ask
my camel Stephen"

Made me weak

A list of famous people's pets in a Monty Python sketch (spoken by John
Cleese) included someone who owned "two pikes, both called Chris".

Don't know why, but this had me helpless.
