Hi all

I really dont want to ask this as Im scared of the answer and impending costs but here goes......

I have a 52 plate td5 on 80000miles and it has developed a problem with the automatic gearbox. I accidently left the sunroof open one day and it suddenly started pouring but I had forgotten about the sunroof and it was only after about ten minutes I remembered and went out and closed it, moved the car into one of the barns, dried it all out and everything worked, left it running with the heaters on just to really dry it out and the window slightly open to let any moisture out and it seemed ok but then all this started to happen a few days later. I did remove/lift up the plastic cover over the gearstick to get any water out.

Firstly it wont start when the lever is in park I have to put it in neutral and then it starts but the little lights to the side of the lever dont light up to show it is in neutral. I then put it in drive and everything is fine.

When i put it in reverse I have to push the lever slightly past the r on the console for it to go and for the lights to go on. If I dont it just sits and revs. The sitting and revving only happens sometimes as I have been pushing it slightly past now.

Finally to top it all off every so often when its playing up like this the M and S lights come on and flash together. I switch the car off and restart and the lights go off.

Apart from all that everything works fine gearbox wise. It changes fine and goes through the gears no problem and and the low ratios work and change fine although the same problems do still exist.

Is it going to cost me a fortune.........
