autobox fault, do they self clear???

hello..

zf24eh autobox...lets say its gone into fault mode..ie lost something critical and now only drives in 3rd forward...
if i fix the fault, will it work properly, or do i need to get faults cleared by test book as well before it will work properly??

box is in 1971 rrc i am modding...ie no becm, no gems engine ecu...

it appears they reset themselves..

so now to finding out why i aint got 1 2 or 3rd..
