At the advice of a member while I haven't really start to restore, I decided to taking some to enjoy the vehicle before anything major.
Maintenance which could have neglected for needs to be addressed. After an oil change I moved to the OD. Being unfamiliar with the unit I researched for info
Best as I can tell it uses .4l to me that about 3/4 of a pint or 12 oz. I that correct don't sound like must
Also I noticed during a rebuild video that was a hose attached to the breather hole/vent. Is this hose needed and if so what type of fitting do I attach that fit thru the small vent hole. Do I enlarge it?
On my OD there piece of 3/8 hose dangling off of a length of piping strapping attached to nothing. After seeing the video it makes me think this was some sort of the setup.

OD should have a dipstick under the filler plug, but it may have broken off, or not been fitted on all units.
I think that is about right for the capacity, although I don't know if you are in US pints or Imperial?
Don't remember any hose on the breather on the ones I have seen.

I found what I believe to be the dipstick, twist out nut on left side. Maybe it was me, hose just looked like it was attached providing some purpose .
thanks

May be a breather, sometimes they go up a height so prevent water getting in when wading, on mine with levels correct , after use gearbox oil seems to migrate to the transfer box and OD from the main gearbox , and bepreathers May help with any pressure differences

Seal on the gearbox output shaft is leaking. It is common, and won't give you a problem provided you drain off excess oil from time to time from the transfer box filler plug, and return it, or add new, to the main gearbox.

Turboman, the other day you spoke of a blown gasket. After your response to steve2286w I now understand just what you meant and how monitor /correct the situation .

haha yes that’s just what I do, is there a seal on OD also that could let oil pass
