..but not "which one's should I buy?"

I went to Costco and can get Michelin Synchrone or Latitude tyres for 90 odd pounds each. Here's the question.... they say they will ONLY sell them in sets for 4x4s and no mix and match of tread patterns.

Is this right? I've got 2.5mm on the front and about 3.5mm on the rears - seems a shame to waste good tread.

They say is due to the 4 wheel diff and wind up - or is it a wind up?

Your tyre depot are talking crap!

Only sell tyres in sets, yeah right! and at £90 a touch, must be 17" wheels

Sounds like normal front tyre wear to me

Nope, standard 16" £90 is the cheapest I've found. Normally Michelins are £105 to £115 per wheel (Micheldever and BlackCircle.com).

Still can't deal with doing all 4 though!!

Buy a pair and fit them on the rear of the vehicle using the rims off the front. Then put the tyres with 3.5mm to the front and all will be happy.

When the fronts have worn out simply have another pair fitted and put on the back. This keeps all the drive train happy.

If you can afford to I would buy 4 tyres, have 2 fitted and keep the other 2 (to replace the 3.5mm ones when worn out). I only say this as the synchrones last ages and have been discontinued.

I have a loan vehicle with the above tyres, covered 11K and tyres are 5 and 6mm. (I didn't measure, the provider did)

Regards,

Steve

I went to costco myself last week, and this is partially true. however, they will happily fit 2 synchrones if you already have synchrones fitted, its the mixing tread patterns they don't like, as (allegedly) it has caused problems with vcu's

Yeah, fresh pair to rear. You might consider swapping the others left to right but that's not really that crucial.

Our TD4's road boots are no more than £75 each - £90 sounds steep, especially as you can get BFG ATs for a tenner more.

Cheers
