Hi,

Got halfway home the other the night... engine cuts out, runs, then cuts out and dies.. went straight to the dizzy and the wire from coil is just about hanging off of the connection insided the dizzy so thought that was the prob.

Reconnected all of that, replaced the wire but still no luck.. hardly any spark..

The connections are all good, points are clean and opening, checked the plugs and leads and they all seem good, tested the coil and its got power in and power out but testing the HT lead for a spark there doesnt seem to be anything at all.

I had no end of bother with the wire from coil to the dizzy about 6 months ago and it seemed the same symptoms cutting out like there was a dodgy connection or earthing out somewhere but seeing as I've replaced that and renewed all of the connections who knows..!

If you hold a test lamp on the output of the coil you get power out but if you touch it with the wire from the dizzy the test lamp goes out, does that mean its shorting out somewhere?

..but seeing as I know bugger all about electrics maybe someone can help...!

Cheers

Dan

that sounds like a condensor problem, remove dissy cap, switch ignition on, place small screw driver between the contact points and twist the screw driver to cause it to spark if the spark is arking any where else other than between the points your condensor is faulty

I did try that and seemed a bit temperamental, got a spark and then didnt get a spark the last time I tried, I'll have another go later and see what happens. I'm going to try another coil on there so may as well try another condensor I suppose!

if you have another coil try it, if still the same replace the old coil back but from what you are saying it seems to point to the condensor, the condensor stops the point from shorting so wot is happening the spark is going to earth instead of to the plug leads give me ur land line no/ in a private email and i will give u a bell

Swapped the condensor wire and the wire from the coil around on the arm inside the dizzy and away it went, must have been shorting out! Didnt even get chance to try another condensor or coil! Cheers for your help!
