Hi all, apologies for posting another ABS/TRAC issue. I have been reading forum posts and online stuff for a few days to try and determine exactly what my issue is, but Im strill struggling to pinpoint it exactly. Im pretty sure its just an ABS sensor, but wondering if you knowledgeable chaps have any useful tips for determining which ABS sensor or what exactly my issue is.

Any how, during this weekends cold spell/snow, she threw the ABS and TRAC light. Now reading posts it seems the ABS sensors are prone to failure during cold spells. Sometimes when I set off in the morning, the lights will go out after the 5 seconds self diagnosis and stay out for maybe up to minute, whilst they are out I can hear something behind the dash on my side ticking constantly. It sounds like some sort of valve trying to do something? It ticks repeatedly for a couple of seconds, then stops, then it tries again, before eventually throwing the ABS and TRAC light again. Now the other day whilst I was breaking at the time it was doing it, I could feel the ABS pump activating through the break peddle.

So, do you guys reckon its just a failed sensor? Is there a way I can determine what sensor (as they seem to be sold in front/rear singles or pairs)? I've read various posts where people start to talk about a failed ABS ECU etc and obviously it all becomes quite confusing. I dont have access to a diag reader, but Im pretty handy with mechanics and a multimeter, so anything you can advise, tips or help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

First quick easy check is the brake light pedal switch, push down pedal pull out plunger then release pedal,
next push all the abs wheel sensors in as far as they will go they will set there own distance.
then its on to diagnostics and not any old one it must be LR dedicated not may will read anything on a p38
and last Welcome to the forum:)

Thanks, so I read about the brake light switch box thing also causing the ABS and TRAC lights to come out, but can confirm, my brake lights are working as I can see the centre one reflecting in the window. I will attempt to push each sensor in, to see if it goes in anymore. How do they set their own distance? I dont understand this?

the brake lights working is not the issue, there are 2 switches in the brakelight switch . as one makes the other must break. set the switch as described first then do the sensors

When they're pushed in all the way they're right. Each sits in its own springy thing. They should be pretty much touching the teeth you can see through the hole.

You've got the 4W traction control then. The ECU on those seems to have some common failure points. @martyuk knows more about this. Even better for you, he's in your area!

Great, thanks, hopefully he'll see this otherwise I'll hunt him down ;)

Thanks, I've watched a youtube video, I'll double check this also. Hoping its simple what ever it is..........probably not though lol
