Alumunium questions

Hello everyone

Just giving my Landy a tidy up took all cappings off and just wondered what the White stuff which seems to spur off(like tree roots) down the panels, I have sanded the White off but do I need to apply some sort of treatment to stop it from happening again?

Also do you need to use etch primer on aluminium or can you use normal aklyd primer ?

That's the aluminium oxidising under the paint. The white powder is aluminium oxide. Best thing to do is rub it down to the clean metal, etch prime then paint it.

Yep etch primer
