Air in engine

Hi,

i started a thread a week ago about my landy doing about 300 yards and cutting out. it was suggested that Air was in the system, which today i've proved to be the case. Ok, so my question is this, I've swapped the hose from the fuel pump to the fuel filter (2.25 diesel by the way), and this hose is clear. I primed the engine, started it. tried to move the landy to elsewhere on the farm and it did about 100yards and conked out. restarted it, lifted the bonnet and there is clearly air bubbles in the hose, does this likely mean that the pump has got a leak somewhere, or that potentially there is a hole in the pipe from the fuel tank to the fuel pump? or, there is a pipe (return fuel pipe i guess) from the injectors back to the fuel pump... does this mean any part of the system could be at fault?!

any suggestions please on where to go with this?

I would look at the pipe from the tank to the pump, from the pump to the injectors is the pressure side and you would have a leak, make sure the filter/filters are ok all O rings are in place and in good condition.

If it's drawing in air somewhere its a pain in the ass but you have to trace all the pipes back to the tank and make sure the tank sender unit is ok aswel. If you have connectors you can cut the pipe in the engine bay and run it from a gallon can, all you need is a length of fuel rubber hose the right diameter, cut the pipe and sleeve it. You can take the pipe off the tank transmittor and do the same.

Thats what I do anyway.

You will get a lot further if the find the self bleeder banjo bolt on top of the fuel filter, and drill out the little hole which will be blocked.
