How often should you change the receiver/ drier on the air con? Is there a time period or are there symptoms that you look out for. From the look of mine I would say it have never been since the vehicle was new.

If the system has not been exposed to the atmosphere for a significant amount of time very litte moisture will have formed. The process of regassing involves a vaccum pull down of the system to such a degree that moisture laden air is completely evacuated for a period of time and then the refrigerant, which is moisture free is drawn in.
If however, the drier is suspected to have been exposed for a long time to normal air, it is best to replace it.They can be bough from either the main dealers, Independants or specialised aircon component suppliers (Often cheaper). Google it.

Thanks Irish. My system has been open for a few days when I had to remove the condenser to fit the new camshaft. Guess a new dryer is on the cards. What would be the symptoms if the dryer was fecked?

Officially i think you are supposed to replace drier every time the system is opened. But in reality this is not required unless the system is opened in very moist ambent air. Moisture in the system freezes as it passes through the expansion valve blocking it.
