Ok im not sure this is the rite place but i'll try explain what's what and if it needs moving im sure someone can sort it.

as the title says im after an aftermarket speedo, maybe something like a pod.

reason, i own a 300tdi disco1 and mine dont work! need i say more about that lol

plans, take out the one thats in the car and replace it with a pod or speedo of some kind. i want to try do this wiring up to the current connections on the car as the speed transducer is new as is all the cable so this now can only be 2 things. the speedo itself or the drive inside the transferbox.

so yeah anyone know where i can get some sort of speedo that will connect to the current wiring thats not going to cost me silly money.

and to finish of the WHY!
Its simple really, everything else on the display works. a NEW set is STUPID money. a 2nd hand set now are almost impossible to find with less than 150k on them and they just means buying something with the expectancy its going to fail soon also.

well good luck finding me some answers guys but if anyone can you guys can let me know what you think and what problems you see me having, changes you think may help. lets have some fun with this and if it turns into something plausible i'll do what i can to make it happen :)

You really need to determine that it is the speedo.
You wont find anything aftermarket that will work properly with your factory wiring IMO.
Just fit a second hand one to be fair they don't fail that often.

Take the transducer out of the transfer box, with it still connected to the wiring turn the ignition to the 'run' position. Spin the end of the transducer between your fingers (in either direction) and the speedo needle should move (don't worry about the actual reading). If it does move then you have proved the speedo / wiring / transducer. If it doesn't move then it could be the transfer box or the transducer wasn't fitted properly (so it wasn't being driven)

its raining at the moment but when its dry i'll get out and try that and report back however im fairly sure my wires are all good being new and also the transducer, the speedo used to work badly bouncing about and reading speeds well off. after taking the clocks out and cleaning what i could and then spraying them they worked semi accurate for a few days then died been reading 0 ever since. will test it though just to see the out come :)
