Hi all,
Just signed up and dont yet own a Land Rover but I'm seriously considering a 1999 (V) Discovery TD5 manual. It's only done 55,000 miles and it's up for £6000 private sale. It's got full LR service history and has had one previous owner. I know about the potential for water leaks from the sunroof seals and also the possibility of water in the rear floor pan, is there anything else I should be looking for? What are the main problem areas if any? Would be very interested in your views re the price and other tips.
Thanks
Steve

seems quite a good deal, check that all the recalls have been done... the early TD5 had a few - ask the vendor. Full service history is a major plus, take time to read through it. find out what has been done.
Air suspension can play up - ask if he's has the bags changed or budget for some new ones LR recommend they are changed every 5 years £300ish
A stiff transfer lever is usually a sign of not much off road use and can be fixed with WD40 underneath. Scratches down the length of side indicate off roading down tight lanes.
look for the same tyres all round - indicates the vendor was not one to skimp.
Early TD5 suffered a bad wiring harness with oil getting to the ECU - not a problem though, but should be cleaned!

plenty more ... have a read of this: http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f8/what-look-early-td5-43895.html?highlight=td5+problems
