kind of another bloody tyre question :banplease: BUT I've searched and cant find exactly what im looking for.

I have a set of standard disco 1 alloys with 225/75/16 ATs im looking at buying some new MT tyres for it, thanks to pikeys thread I know what tyres will fit the disco but not the wheels.

Can I get bigger tyres fitted to the same wheels ie 235/70/16 or 245/70/16, or do I have to buy new wheels as well?
I imagine that most tyre garages will be able to take old ones off and fit new with a charge?

Second question: would I be right in thinking that I can use a different size tyre as a spare and it wont muck up diffs or anything?

Thanks all!

You can put any landrover fitment wheel on.but itl rub on standard rims hence y itl say steering stops have to be shortened.fit a set of modulars or weller rims with offset.or some spacers

235/70's will fit on std D1 alloy rims.

Not true D2 RR (except for Classics) and gaylander rims won't fit a D1..

I got 265/70's BFG A/T's on my standard Land Rover Alloys :D

This is the best pic I can find quickly...

Thanks everybody, am I right in thinking 235/70/16 will lift the diffs a bit more than 225/75/16?

Since sidewall height (in mm) is first number x second number / 100, 235/70 is about 4mm lower than 225/75. But that's less than the difference between a new tyre and a worn one.

Provided you don't have LSDs, diffs shouldn't care at all about different tyre sizes (assuming you don't use difflock on good surfaces, of course :D)

265/70s will be a mite bit taller. Nice. But the handling's going to be weird if you fit a standard-size spare. Suspension should take up the slack but I wouldn't want to try it at speed.

Thanks yeah the smaller tyre is a spare so would treat it like a skinny on a normal car ie not driving more than a few miles and keeping the speed down to 40mph ect. :)

you'd be better off getting a proper sized spare. Most space saver spares have the same diameter as the std wheel. Just not as wide.
