I was out laning today in Essex. I've just purchased an up to date map. I know you cant rely on them totally, but here is my query.
I approach an entrance, which still has the moss covered stone sign, signifying the public byway.
I then come across a large painted white line with private painted in front of it. Beyond, is a wall creating a passage towards a large farm house. This is the only point of access for the lane.
Now I'm pretty sure this is the owner of the surrounding land trying to discourage use of the lane, not that I have an extensive knowledge of the laws, but I walked down to the house to query the situation, however no one was about.
Unsure, I turned around and carried on elsewhere. My query is this, where do I stand in a situation like this, and if there is anything that can be done or said if he is wrong? Or am I wrong?
Any thoughts, greatly appreciated, let me know what you think.
