Hi forum,

just joined up so tstart annoying you all already.

So i just bought a 98 4.6 HSE and there are a few problems. Main problems are that the dash is displaying the ABS, TC and parking brake lights constantly on. The brakes are terrible. On inspecting its clear that the rear brakes are not functioning as surface rust is showing. I tried to bleed the rear brakes but can't get any fluid. I ask my local mechanic and he basically said he won't do the job coz he couldn't be bothered with the hassle.

can anyone suggest anything? Does anyone know of a good garage in the glasgow area?

Rear brakes are probably seized calipers - common problem. Easier to just replace the whole lot rather than try messing about trying to fix them.

I've just done the rear pads on mine, and despite the rear calipers already having been replaced once, I noticed the slave cylinders on one side were starting to seize, so I pulled it all apart and cleaned it all up - but I caught it early.

ABS / TC is likely to be a sensor that has died, but you need to get it to someone with Rovacom or Testbook to read the codes out of the ECU to find out which one it is. Then replace.

Thanks for the manual mate.

Checked rear calipers and they seem fine. But could not get any fluid from the nipples on either side. Tried all afternoon on a drop or two. Could it maybe be a fault with the ABS pump or even the ECU? Does anyone know what kind of cost is involved?

Cheers

So took the car to a local Landy specialist and he did a diagnostics check. Came back with

Pressure warning switch failure#
Front right sensor air gap too large
Front left sensor air gap too large

any ideas guys?

Mechanic did not have enough time to further investigate and will need it back in when he's free next week.

sounds easy enough, if you have a look at the front hubs on both sides you should be able to find the abs sensors with the black wires going to them, simply press or if stuck gently tap with a piece of bar or similar the sensors back in until they are gently seated. i guess it should be easy enough to find out what and where the switch is with rave and probably change it yourself
hope that helps ;)

Cheers rustyrangie,

i'll get right onto it. Well just as soon as the rain stops............................mmh i live in the west coast of Scotland so hopefully get a dry day before 2010! Ha.
