I could do with a little advice please.

I believe I have a front end problem on my disco. Whenever I brake from speeds above 50 I get a terrible vibration and bounce from the front end. There is no real bounce when braking from lower speeds, although had a bit of brake squeal.

I have prevoiusly clocked up the disks as I was getting a bit of peddle bouce as well, but they appeared to be fine. Yesterday, I changed the front disks, but the problem was still there. The pistons in the calipers were all working fine.

When I bought it, the previous owner said they sold because they were told they had a broken half shaft, I have had some opinions on this and they were suggested this was not the case, but have never looked any further.

Two questions.
Does anyone think my vibration is associated with a broken half shaft? (would the car still drive normally???)

Could anyone give me the next point to look at in and around the brakes?

Thanks in anticipation.

Assuming its a disco 1 with a lockable diff;

Easiest way to tell if you have a broken half shaft is to put the car in diff-lock (drive back/forward a bit till the diff light comes on). Then jack up one wheel at a time, with a wheel off the ground try to turn it by hand. It should turn slightly as it takes up any slack in the system but then shouldn't move.

If you find 3 of your wheels dont move and one does then you've found your broken halfshaft.

As for the bounce...well check all bushes etc I suppose and make sure the calipers are secured and hubs have no play in them.
