Hi everyone, I'm new to anything with a rover name tag so I'm ultra impressed with my 3 year old range rover. Until now that is where I drive with some apprehension of an expensive bill looming on the horizon. A month ago I was driving normally, just cruising around 40 or so. Then I accelerated making the engine work a bit and noticed the warning message of low coolant suddenly appear on the display. This was closely followed by the temp guage steadily rising and sitting for a while (less that a min) in the red before dropping down to just below the red after I slowed down. After a short while, a few mins, it did move back into the red and stayed there. I slowed right down at the first indication of something amiss and limped to a Land Rover dealer garage. The dealer checked the engine and replaced the thermostat (I think that was it) which had gone defective and caused the system to puch coolant out of the system. The dealership tells me that there is no problem with the engine and no overheating damage apparent. I appreciate their wisdom however I remain apprehensive only because of my experience in early life with warped heads and blown gaskets. To be fair, the engine now runs sweet and smooth but on the basis that the car was probably running in the red zone for about 4/5 mins albeit at minimal revs, should i be right to be concerned or are these engines so rugged that they can handle a bit of extreme operating.
Thanks for any thoughts on this.

Hi Tim.
I think that you should keep an eye on the coolant level for the next few weeks to see if it drops, but i think that it will be okay. Did the the dealer top up the coolant level ? If they did not pop back and explain the issue and ask them to do it. When these things happened to me it was the temp sensor and the thermostat that were affected by the heat, which you have replaced. If it starts okay and the thermostat appears to be working you should be okay. Again just keep an eye on it until your satisfied all has settled down.

Cheers, Nick.

Hi Nick,
Thanks, that a relief! The dealer did top up the coolant level so as you suggest, i'll just keep an eye on it for now.
Cheers, Tim
