300tdi - Noise and Speed

I have just bought a 300tdi defender 110csw which I have just had serviced. Took it out for a drive today and found that the top speed was about 75mph and that at this speed there seemed to be a lot of "turbo" whine???? Appreciate that 110s aren't the fastest or quietest of things, but does this sound right??

Has it got plenty of power?
If not you could have one of the intercooler pipes splitting, the 90 degree one nearest the turbo is favourite and the one between the top steel pipe and the inlet manifold i have had both of these go on a 300tdi disco.
My 90 will do about 90 mph but thats got a disco transfer box in it.
