just had a thought on these big expensive intercoolers, would it be feasable to just plumb another standard 300tdi intercooler back to back if you like? would it make much difference?

Real answer, I dunno.

My take on it would be a big intercooler allows an easier throughput for larger volumes of air, with a larger surface cooling area ..

Two small intercoolers might have the surface area, but won't allow any bigger volumes of air through, indeed I reckon they might even restrict airflow and so have an adverse effect and strangle it.

OTOH ... if someone tries it and gets decent results ... ;)

I'd be interested in that, BoB, I have a spare intercooler (well, a mate has) and if it works it might worth trying.

My trouble is I need the Disco, as it's my only car, to be reliable and running all the time, so can't **** about with stuff like this that I'd like to in case I make it go bang!

Has to be said, though, after thinking about it, the surface area increase for cooling should outweigh the restrictions.

engine runs fine.i would expect better economy.ya bigest problem is gunna be space.i planned mine from the star when i put in th 200 to me range.i use the standard petrol V8 rad which is HUGE an oil rad from scrapper.it was metric so had to convert.Ive got the intercoolers behind plastic grill in front of rad each side by lights.I just bodged some brackets together.fitted a bit of box behind the grill and bolted em in.Fookin bust me plastic putting it back on tho

Sounds good.

I used to race sidecars so was used to making different rads/oilcoolers etc fit, so I guess an intercooler isn't that much different, just make sure nothing sharp can prod into it, I guess .. ;)

I can easily do 32-34 mpg ... just drive like a feckin' vicar ... ;)

Seriously, de-egr'd, de-cat, straight through centre exhaust, new intercooler/turbo pipes and a good clean of the intercooler/plenum and it'll now easily do well into the thirties. Unless you use the welly a lot, then it drops, and also does when towing, but nowhere near as much as it did without the 'mods', down to maybe 25mpg ... hence why I'm interested in the double intercooler idea .. :)
