The Defender 300tdi l just bought has done 136,000 miles.

The clutch action is great, if anything nicer than my TD5. There's a problem though.....when it has been on a run, it is difficult to select first gear while stationary.

It will go in, but takes a really hard shove on the lever. The missus (who will be driving it) might struggle.

As this vehicle is under warranty, l need to know what this might be.

You have to remove the turret to be able to get to the selector yoke, one grub screw frees that off the selector shaft, then you just have to remove a circlip, push out the old bush, swap the ball into the new one and refit everything...

Pretty easy really.

It was the clutch!

Had a new clutch fitted locally, the supplying dealer paid majority of the bill. They said the clutch itself was alright but was binding on the splines or something.

Anyway, new clutch/release arm and it's perfect now.
