I was bringing my 300Tdi back from Lancaster when I got a funny noise on the motorway. I came off at Parbold and headed towards home in Ormskirk. By the time I got there the noise was a whine in 5th. On the trip to the garage in the morning the gearbox was clunking but it made it.
I was going to have the gearbox rebuilt but a secondhand gear and transfer box arrived a much cheaper price.
So if anyone would like to offer me cash for a gearbox kit (it was stripped to inspect) before it goes on eBay let me know.
As far as I have seen the mainshaft splines are worn so I presume all the bearings will need replacing.
