Eyup.

When I first had the problem I thought it was a plugged fuel filter, it was missing and stumbling at part throttle, (but oddly, ticking over perfectly.)
So I pulled over and changed it. Ran fine for a short distance then carried on faulting.

Tank sender 6 month old, checked inside tank no evidence of muck or water.
No sedimenter fitted just two nylons lines to the pump.

Checked the gauze on the (near new) delphi lift pump. Clean.

On the mech pump, the timing is controlled by an orifice on the banjo. This is the EDC one... is the timing solenoid controlled? Or is there a fancy return banjo on this too that could be blocked?
Blew out the banjo on return but not convinced it did owt. Very strange contraption looks like a needle or something inside.
I tried running the return into a jar. I am getting a strong flow, 500ml in 30 seconds or less. No bubbles.

Another thought is the pump quantity solenoid (I think) does seem to be buzzing quite loudly. Can't remember if it always did when running though.

Tried it with tank cap loose, don't think it's vacuum in tank.

A bit of a better description of the symptoms:

The tickover is fine, and initial setting off reasonable. On advancing throttle a little more it will start to heisitate and buggerabout. It has put the engine light on once, briefly. As it hesitates and you apply a bit more throttle it will cause the autobox to kick down and then the revs are sort of all over the place as it seems to fight between the autobox and the engine. IF you give it a good bit more throttle, then the 'box kicks down fully and the engine takes off. It then has the usual quite reasonable amount of power and takes off like a scalded cat.

I'm suspecting the TPS. Cleaning the TPS connector and it was fine this morning. However I'm not sure I got it as hot as it was the other night.

The buzzing noise is the fuel shut-off solenoid...... I'm having the same issues with my wagon ERR 3337 Bosch (KBAL 90 P38) nozzle and holder 0432 193 834, any info on reconning these items would be great.....apparently bosh doesn't support 3337 !!!!! the other three ERR 3348 seem to have no issues with sorting out. 200,000 miles so they could do with sorting out. Has or does anyone know if the sensor is detachable on No 4 ??? or is it in built to the injector ?

An inductive sensor in No 4 injector body monitors
needle movement. This forms part of a ’closed loop’
system to control start of injection.
The system measures timing, relating the needle
movement signal to crank position (determined by
flywheel pulses from the engine speed sensor).

It does more than just shuts it off, it does the entire job of the governor on a proper pump.
The stop solenoid just makes one click.

No idea about your injectors sorry, but I have found independent diesels in halifax quite good, worth a chat to.

Hello Flyingvegetable, have you solve your problem? I had something similar to what you described. When your driving along does the engine act as if it were a petrol unit that was miss firing. Like running on 4 then dropping onto 3 cylinders and so on. Some days, no problems others its a bastard. I did what you did and went through all the fuel system replacing many parts with no affect. In the end it was the injector pump itself. I ended up removing the electronic controlled pump and replaced it with a manual one. Since then no more problems. I hope you sorted yours out, when I drove mine I sometimes wondered if I was going to get home or not.
