Bought a 300tdi a few weeks ago and totally love it - it has become a rolling project. I've been browsing the web and have a few questions:

Clutch - biting point is nearly at the high end of travel (last 1-2 cm) - is this 'normal'? Clutch certainly doesn't feel as though its slipping and I am guessing it has probably been replaced recently though I have zero service history. (Engine has been rebuilt judging by gaskets and belts, prop shafts are newish, new brake discs).

Transfer box - how can I tell whether the transfer box is a 1.4 ratio? Could it be a 1.6? I am thinking of putting in a 1.2 from a Discovery. It currently pulls like a train to about 100km and begins to struggle beyond that. As it was a Croatian border police vehicle I'm thinking it may have been specced differently.

Engine - how can I tell whether the fuel pump has been tweaked for extra performance? It has been de-EGR'd at some point but I'd like to tweak the pump (if it hasn't already been done). Is there a way to tell?

IF it has been serviced by a dealer (I assume it hasn't but you never know), would I be able to find its service history somewhere?

Sorry for all the questions! :)

There is a specified height for the pedal position. Check that first.

Not sure you can tell if the pump has been tweaked, unless the person who did it marked it up as they did it. But if you are going to do it, then it is considered a good idea to fit a EGT.

I understood the serial number on the Tbox gave you an idea of the final ratio.

Cheers
