Hi all i am new to the form.

I am rebuilding a 300TDi and have a couple of questions on bot reuse, this engine only has 25000 miles on it, previous owner botched a timing belt install resulting in piston to valve contact, bent a few rods, broke a few rockers.

I have done the tear down and inspection, and have a parts list together, do i need to replace the following bolts, or can i reuse them.

1. Main cap bolts for the crank shaft.
2. Con-rod cap bolts and nuts.

I have ordered new head bolts, can you think of any other bolts that are a mandatory change out based or just not worth taking a chance on.

Thanks.

Alex

my advice is change the head bolts, i dont think they are strech bolts but you do strain the bolts when you torque them is it worth the risk of a head bolt shearing on you?

as for other bolts that need replaceing i dont think there is

When I did a rebuild I replaced all of the above and used thread lock though not on the head bolts. Although Land Rover say you can re-use the head bolts 3 times, it is about £25 for a new set from Turner engineering. If it were me and i did not know the whole history of the engine I would replace them.
