Thanx David, will do. I prefer doing things myself as too many guys working on our prescious landys do not have the same passion and over time I learnt these ladies needs to be treated with respect. If a mechanic messes something up you end up with a big hole in your wallet.

Thats the best way, I'm a truck mechanic and only had mine for a couple of years, but I do all the jobs myself and have made all the extra bits like tree sliders etc.

If you take the filter off as I said and its full of oil, odds on the pickup is ok coz it would have sucked it dry. If both the lines are clear including the cooler then oil pump or relief valve.

Ok the relief valve is in the casing with the oil pump, the pump is driven by the crankshaft, "two flats" the filter head has a valve fitted but it's themostatic and only for the cooler, so it only allows flow when the oil gets hot enough.

So that narrows it down a bit.

Take the filter off see whats in it fill another filter with oil and stick it on, just in case the filter is fooked and see if it pumps oil out the pressure switch.

Hi David,
I have already checked the oil thermostat and there was oil in the filter. I suppose the sump will have to come off to see if everything inside (pickup pipe and strainer) is OK. In the Haynes manual I see there is an O-ring in the pickup pipe, maybe that's gone....

Thanx for your input, much appreciated
