Hello everyone.

I was wondering if anyone would be able to offer me any advice. I have a V8i with a very worn camshaft. Knackard lifters and a stretched timing chain.

I have no idea where to start or how to go about taking the engine apart to sort this out. I know the V8 is a simple engine in its design but I don't want to just keep guessing taking bolts out and parts off until I can get to what I need to.

From looking at the engine and at photos online im guessing that the camshaft slides out of the front of the block so it can be done with the engine in the car (I have no means of removing the engine)

If anyone has ever done this before and can share some advice it would be greatly appreciated

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum. It is usual procedure to introduce yourself first.

However:
Yes, the camshaft is removed from the front after removing the radiator, timing cover/water pump, distributor. It would be good practice to remove both cylinder heads and examine the condition of the valves etc.
I would recommend replacing the rocker shafts, rocker arms and push rods at the same time also both timing chain sprockets and timing cover front seal.
Have a read of the Haynes manual or download a copy of RAVE. There is a download link on here if you do a search.

You will need:
Top end Gasket set
Timing Cover gasket (If not included in above set)
Water Pump gasket " " " " " "
Timing Cover Oil seal " " " " " "
Oil & Filter (For oil change)
Tub of Vaseline Petroleum Jelly-for priming oil pump
Pair of Oil Pump gears-if worn
2- Rocker shafts
8- LH Rocker arms
8- RH Rocker arms
16- Push rods

Good list so far, buy OEM lifters! And if your cam is that knackered so will be your plain bearings from the swarf from the damaged cam, replace the big end shells and as many mains as you can get to.
