2006 td4 auto problems

Hi all,
I have a lovely Td4 commercial auto. Been a superb car for many years but today sadly she decided she doesn’t want to reverse.
Drives forwards fine but no reverse. It feels like it wants to do something but can’t manage it.
Any help appreciated as I love this car and want to keep her going.

Yes, have had this. You don't say mileage but at about 100k the reverse brake band fractures meaning no reverse. If you have had a recent fluid change then the mechanic may have unscrewed wrong bolt and put the fault on but if not the band has broken.

It is a gearbox out job I am afraid. Recon or repair the band.

Funny you should mention it, once the box was out I took it to a local auto g/box place for the repair as I didn't have anywhere I could strip it myself. With the help of my Nephew we got the box back in two bank holidays ago & haven't had time to do anymore . I hope to get it finished in the next month or so. Box cost me £1100 they did say it's the cleanest (inside) Jatco box they'd worked on & the forward & reverse clutch packs, including everything thing else was perfect (comes with a two year guarantee). I broke a pipe off the vaccum solenoid on removal & I managed to get a new genuine boxed one for £1.50 !! at Billing yesterday so it's getting there very slowly.

Sorry to hear you've probably got the same problem I had although mine's done about 180,000 but like you say they're great vehicles & if the rest is OK it'll be worth doing, all the best.

I've come across a small nunber of jatco's where reverse failed and was fixed with a fluid change. Worth a try. Its cheap to do. Instructions are on here.

had the same problem changed auto gearbox oil as did not believe that it was mechanical , wd40 on the separated gearbox wiring harness as noticed that it was damp and not rusty but dirty twisted it back together and after twisting and taking back of a few times it was fine and still is at least two years later .
