Evening All,

So MOT day:eek: failed of course..................

Hand Brake efficiency below requirement, recently did the rear discs, pads, hand brake shoes and callipers. I tried in vain to adjust the hand brake before the test, so as per service manual adjust right up and back off 8 clicks. The theory is good but on one side I could only adjust up 1 notch so could only back off 1 notch. Other side could adjust up quite a way and backed it off 6 clicks. with hand brake on I couldn't rotate the wheels with a braker bar between the wheel nuts so thought it should be good enough. Upon putting the wheel back on and testing it the hand brake will go right up to last notch, it will hold on my steep drive and wont creep forwards or back in drive or reverse unless you give it some gas. I didn't want to adjust them up so it is running with the hand brake on and maybe I have been a bit over cautious.

I read on here this is not an unusual problem and that the hand brake cables stretch and there is no adjustment at the hand brake handle end. Is this what I am seeing and do I need to replace the cables so it will past the test or is there something else I could look to do?

Also have a front lower suspension arm ball joint excessively worn, I don't own a press although I know a man with one, I see the whole arm with ball joint isn't megga bucks, should I just replace the whole arm, maybe both sides for ease or is pressing the bearing in and out an easy task?

Thanks in advance for reading this
