Hi Guys

I just wanted to say and hello and introduce myself as I will no doubt have plenty of questions in the future.

I've just bought a 2004 Freelander TD4 SE in black which I have been looking for quite a while. It's not perfect and needs a few items, tyres being the main thing. Having read plenty about the VCU and tyre related problems I have been watching it like a hawk and keep checking the temp of it (the rear tyres are mismatched and need replaced). The VCU hasn't got very hot, just warm (you can hold your hand on it) on a longish run but I will be putting tyres on this Friday.

I've purchased a few upgrades already such as EGR bypass, OSRAM nighbreakers.

Is there anything else I should do straight away. Service etc?

If it were mine I would give it a full service and change all liquids and oils. Check it all over to make sure everything works. Search for and perform the One Wheel Up Test OWUT. Check nothing is leaking of falling oft. Freelander section in the link below:

Hiya Nialldol, welcome, but I a, also new to freelanders.
I too got a black TD4 auto HSE version, and found It never had a prop.
i also found the rear axle to be noisy / maybe the reason for no prop.
i too am learning about them doing little bits when i can.
taken me almost a month to find how to get the radio out to then get a code for it, but today was the day, and it all seems to work (Becker with sat nav).
outstanding jobs are = fit the quick fix top hose thermostat (renault 5 type) that fits inside the top hose for quicker temp warm up (88degree) although i have a fitted and working Fuel Burning heater.
And maybe a rear wheel bearing (but not yet checked 100%)
I hope you enjoy yours as I do mine
