Hi All,

From under going replacing my timing belt and taking off the crankshaft damper i noted major damage to it (by past owner) and the need to replace it and the keyway insert on the crankshaft itself. Reading up i need to remove the crankshaft timing gear which needs a tool of LRT 12-078 (for a 200tdi engine). Does anyone know were i can get this from other than Churchill tools has its hard to spend £120 on a tool that will only use poss twice in my lifetime.

Also do i need the additional tool of LRT 12-031 to work with LRT 12-078 ??

Is there a 3rd party tool set you can get that covers these tools i need? I know looking at some of these timing sets they have pulley tools in them.

I made a tool to hold the crank but I have to remove the crank pulley first to use it . Sounds like you've got that far anyway.
I've stripped and reconned 3 200tdi's and have never had to use any special tools to remove the crank or cam gear behind. They just pull straight off sometimes needing a wooden wedge gently tapped in behind to help it on its way. Some do have trouble and probably use a universal puller , nowt special.

As with Flossie I also have had no problem removing the belt gear on the crank. You say there is damage to the crank keyway / key .Probably the result of the main V belt pully coming loose. Has the belt gear come forward any ? If so tap it back and tidy any burrs on crank or key before trying again. Some pics may help us see your problem.

As suspect V pully has been loose. If you have not tried already clean up the corrosion on the shaft and the bit of the key you can see and have a go at taping and wedging the gear off
