200 Tdi 110 defender brakes

Mine is a 300tdi 110, disks all round. Its diabolical. I may as well be rubbing chickens against the disks instead of break pads. Am doing disks, flexis/calipers all round to see if that makes a difference. Checked out the Master cylinder it seems ok. I have to pump (the brakes...) twice before any deceleration happens. It to has an MOT - No idea how! Have driven other landies and none have been great, but there again, none have been this bad!
Whoever designed those securing bolts on the calipers should be taken out, beaten with a brick then shot for good measure. I spent all of sunday taking them out, each one was pre-rounded for my pleasure.

when was the fluid last changed? it absorbes moisture which cannot compress hence why you get ineffective barking or brake fade. change the fluid and bleed the system thoroughly.

as Griff says about the quality of your brake fluid but also check your wheel bearing play as i have found with my Disco it is very fussy on bearing play ie. any at all and the brakes require a couple of pumps to bring the brakes up to a respectable level of retardation.

standard disc front drum rear 110 brakes should be able to stop you fully loaded from 80 mph without fade and hard enough to hang you in the seatbelt I know mine does

the brakes on my 90 are pretty good, discs and drums.... only problem is with my mud tyres if i have to brake hard the wheels just lock up and i end up skidding!

the standard breaks on my old 110 are sharp, only prob is that the back wheels will lock up under very hard breaking or on loose surfaces, other than that they would be happy to introduce my face with the windscreen!
I'd get the same results from running into the back of a fiestastandard disc front drum rear 110 brakes should be able to stop you fully loaded from 80 mph without fade and hard enough to hang you in the seatbelt I know mine does
