i have a question for all you merkeniks and genrally clever peeps out there!!

could a 200/300tdi be turned into a non turbo injun?

I apologise for not having much knowledge of these engines....but to hazard a few guesses...I wouldn't say that the compression ratio would be much different on the N/A D to the TD engine so that won't be much of an issue. Other than alterations to the exhaust (unless a NA one bolts on?), blocking off the oil feed and return for the turbo I wouldn't have thought on a basic engine like the 200 TDi you would have a problem.

Do they have an oil cooler? Doubt you would need that if you were changing it to NA so that may as well be taken off and blocked off.

right so it can be done,i know there would be a power lose but would it be a mahoosive one and would there be any reliability issues?

Do a search on the net and compare the stats of the NA and the TD, that will give you an idea! I don't think the turbos will be that big so won't be a huge loss in power, but you will notice the difference a fair bit I would have thought.

You are giving the engine less stress so I can't see why there should be any reliability issues. Good idea to check the air fuel mix across the rev range I'd say just to be on the safe side.

I am sure the sump plugs blank the holes off perfectly on the 200TDi which savs you scrabbling around for bolts. But of course I could be imagining that.
