Dear,
I'm from Germany and bought last month my RRC
First the gearbox sync. makes trouble, fixed now. 4 speed man.
Also the oil temp. Instrument got fixed ( wasn't working, no power connection )
Now the Instrument showed up a oil Temp. from 120-140 degree = red zone
The water temperature was perfect = not to hot
This car hasn't an oil cooler, so what can be wrong ?
Car runs fine, only the instrument makes me nervous
Oil looks very clean and was changed 2015
I checked the temp under the car at the oil tray with a gauge. Result was there 120 degree. So the instrument isn't the problem in my eyes....
Any idea !?
Thank you in advance
Regards
Peter

Thanks
BUT I wrote that the temperature I got from the sender ( 120-140 red ) was confirmed with the temp at the oil tray from 120
So the question is still, why > 90-100

.??

Hard to say it is one thing or another. I would be doing lots of checks. Firstly to prove your (infra red?) gauge is correct. You know what temp water boils at.
What does it measure your coolant at if the oil is 120
What grade of engine oil is it running? Change it if you aren't sure.
Then oil circulation / pressure, coolant circulation, ignition timing.

That's the downside of too much information!
If the car hadn't been fitted with this supplementary gauge you would never have known & worried about the reading
Perhaps the oil can be expected to reach that temperature under normal conditions, I've no idea but perhaps that's your next line of enquiry?

Thank's
First of all by an suffix F car is the oil temperature instrument standard,so no add installation from me
We found the problem
The carbs was not adjusted ok, but the main fact was, believe it or not, the ignition time which should be 3 degree
before OT stands on 43 degree before OT
Not believable, because the engine runs with this totally wrong adjustment
And believe it or not, because of V8, not so bad......

Forgive my ignorance
Glad you've managed to sort the problem.
When buying any pre-owned vehicle, checking the ignition timing is always one of my first tasks as the setting is invariably incorrect o_O

You're right, however got the car from a good knowing dealer with enough experience.
Described as : technical and optical top conditions.....
So I learned a lot......unfortunately

I suggest you advise the dealer to employ another mechanic & tell him why - he'll have an excuse of course but at least you've let him know that, as a customer, you're not impressed with their 'expertise' :(
